Apex Trader Funding Rithmic vs Tradovate vs WealthCharts comparison
01 The three platforms at a glance

What each platform actually is.

Apex's own platform choice happens as a separate step at checkout, independent of account size, trail type, and fee tier. All three options below use the same evaluation rules and pricing, the platform only determines how you connect to your account and trade it.

Rithmic

Data layer, multiple front-ends

Rithmic is the data and execution connection, not a single interface. NinjaTrader is the most common front-end, but Sierra Chart, Quantower, ATAS, Jigsaw Trader, and Bookmap can all connect through it too. Windows-based front-ends only.

Tradovate

Web + desktop app

No third-party software required for the direct path. Works on Windows and Mac. Uses its own dedicated data connection, separate from Rithmic.

WealthCharts

Entirely web-based

No download of any kind. Works on Windows and Mac through a browser. Native built-in trade copier.

Rithmic is not one interface, it's a connection

Choosing Rithmic at purchase unlocks access to several compatible front-end applications, not just NinjaTrader. This is a common point of confusion since Apex lists "Rithmic" as if it were a single platform choice. In practice, NinjaTrader is the most widely used option among Rithmic-compatible front-ends. Tradovate, by contrast, is not a Rithmic front-end. It uses an entirely separate, dedicated data connection chosen independently at purchase.

Setup steps for each are covered in full in the dedicated guides: Rithmic via NinjaTrader, Tradovate, and WealthCharts.

Verified across official Apex sources and individual platform setup guides, July 2026. Profit targets, drawdown amounts, and fees are identical across all three, on both the Standard and No Activation Fee tiers, and are not shown here since they do not vary by platform.

Two points from the table are worth expanding on. As of March 2026, Rithmic and Tradovate reject any order submitted without an attached stop-loss and take-profit, enforced at the platform level on both evaluations and Performance Accounts. Whether WealthCharts enforces the same requirement was not confirmed in official sources at the time of writing. The front-month contract rule itself, trading the current active contract symbol rather than a continuous contract, applies across all three platforms. What differs is enforcement. WealthCharts actively rejects any order placed on a continuous contract symbol, so the trade never executes. Rithmic and Tradovate both allow continuous contract symbols to be traded, meaning the order goes through and the liquidation risk becomes real if the wrong contract is selected. Being blocked is safer than being allowed through. The full mechanics, including a worked example showing how a routine-looking chart price can still trigger instant liquidation, are covered in the Apex front-month contract guide.

Commission comparison

Commission structures differ modestly by platform. The figures below are approximate, sourced from third-party trackers rather than pulled directly from Apex's own commission pages for each platform, and are included as a general reference rather than an exact quote.

03 The most important difference

How the trailing drawdown behaves differently on Tradovate.

This affects every trader, regardless of platform preference

On Rithmic and WealthCharts evaluations, the trailing drawdown threshold locks permanently once it reaches the profit target balance. A $50K account with a $3,000 profit target locks its threshold at $53,000 once the highest balance reaches that level. On Tradovate evaluations, the threshold never locks. It continues to trail your peak balance for the entire life of the account, including after you have already passed the profit target.

In practice, this means a Tradovate trader who has passed their evaluation and continues holding large open positions carries more ongoing threshold risk than a Rithmic or WealthCharts trader at the same profit level. A reversal in an open position can raise the Tradovate floor upward before the trade closes, something that cannot happen once the Rithmic or WealthCharts threshold has locked.

This single mechanical difference is often the deciding factor for traders who plan to hold larger positions or trade less frequently after reaching their profit target. The full worked examples and numbers behind this are covered in the Apex profit target article and the Apex trailing drawdown guide.

04 Setup complexity

Which platform gets you trading fastest.

WealthCharts and the direct Tradovate path are the two fastest routes to a live account. Neither requires downloading and configuring a separate charting application. Rithmic takes longer because it involves two separate pieces of software: NinjaTrader itself, and RTrader Pro for the Rithmic connection and credential login.

Rithmic can also be reached through Tradovate

It is worth noting that NinjaTrader can also connect to a Tradovate account, covered in the NinjaTrader connection path of the Tradovate setup guide. If you specifically want NinjaTrader's charting tools but prefer Tradovate's simpler account structure, that combined path is available, though it still requires the NinjaTrader download.

05 Trade copier support

Which platform makes multi-account copy trading easiest.

WealthCharts has the clearest advantage here, with a trade copier built natively into its dashboard designed specifically for copying trades across accounts owned by the same trader. Tradovate offers a comparable Group Copier feature. Rithmic has no native copier of its own, traders running multiple Rithmic accounts typically rely on NinjaTrader's account synchronization feature as a workaround.

Regardless of which platform you copy trade on, the same rules apply: copying is only permitted between your own accounts, the household 20-account limit applies across all platforms combined, and the hedging rule requires all accounts to trade in the same direction. The full rules are covered in the Apex copy trading and multiple accounts guide.

06 Which one to choose

Matching the platform to your setup.

Choosing by trader profile

New to futures trading, want the simplest start

WealthCharts or the direct Tradovate path. Both skip the downloaded-software step entirely and get you into a chart faster. Neither requires learning a second application on top of the trading platform itself.

On a Mac

Tradovate or WealthCharts. Rithmic is not usable on Mac since NinjaTrader is Windows only.

Already comfortable with NinjaTrader's charting tools

Rithmic remains the natural choice if you have existing familiarity with NinjaTrader indicators, chart templates, or third-party add-ons built for that ecosystem. The Rithmic setup guide covers the full connection process.

Planning to copy trade across multiple accounts

WealthCharts, for the native built-in copier, or Tradovate for its Group Copier. Both avoid the extra NinjaTrader dependency that Rithmic-based copying requires.

Planning to hold positions past your profit target without closing them immediately

Rithmic or WealthCharts, since the locked drawdown threshold provides a fixed floor once you pass. Tradovate's indefinitely trailing threshold means the floor keeps moving even after you have technically passed your evaluation.

Whichever platform you choose, remember it is locked at purchase and cannot be changed afterward. If you decide later that a different platform suits your trading better, a new evaluation must be purchased and passed on that platform specifically.

What traders also ask.

Rithmic requires NinjaTrader and RTrader Pro and is Windows only. Tradovate and WealthCharts are both usable without downloaded software and work on Windows and Mac. The biggest mechanical difference is the trailing drawdown: Rithmic and WealthCharts lock the threshold once it reaches the profit target balance, while Tradovate trails indefinitely and never locks. Profit targets, drawdown amounts, contract limits, and fees are identical across all three.
WealthCharts and the direct Tradovate path are the fastest to set up, both taking roughly 5 to 10 minutes with no third-party software. Connecting via Rithmic through NinjaTrader takes longer, typically 15 to 20 minutes, because it requires downloading NinjaTrader, installing RTrader Pro, and configuring a separate connection.
No. On Rithmic and WealthCharts, the trailing drawdown threshold locks permanently once it reaches the profit target balance. On Tradovate, the threshold trails indefinitely with your peak balance and never locks, even after you pass the profit target. This means Tradovate accounts carry more ongoing threshold risk for traders holding large open positions after reaching their target.
WealthCharts includes a native trade copier accessible directly from its dashboard, which is one of its main advantages. Tradovate offers a comparable Group Copier feature. Rithmic has no built-in copier of its own; copying trades on Rithmic requires using NinjaTrader's account synchronization feature as a workaround.
Yes, if you choose Tradovate or WealthCharts. Both work on Mac through a browser or desktop app. Rithmic is not Mac compatible on its own, since it connects through NinjaTrader, which is Windows only.
No. Profit targets, maximum drawdown amounts, contract limits, the consistency rule, the payout split, and the payout cap schedule are identical across Rithmic, Tradovate, and WealthCharts for the same account size and trail type. The only differences are in setup process, software requirements, and the trailing drawdown lock behavior.
No. Platform choice is locked at the time of purchase and cannot be changed. An evaluation purchased on WealthCharts can only convert into a WealthCharts Performance Account. To trade on a different platform, you need to purchase and pass a new evaluation specifically for that platform.
WealthCharts or the direct Tradovate path are generally easier starting points since both require no third-party software installation and have simpler setup processes. Rithmic through NinjaTrader offers a more established charting platform with a larger library of third-party indicators, but requires a longer setup process across two applications.
