AI tools arrive on a platform much of the futures prop sector runs on.
NinjaTrader has launched an Innovation Lab focused on artificial intelligence for futures trading, unveiling three initial tools: Nina, an AI trading companion; AI Strategy Builder, a plain-language strategy coding tool; and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server connecting AI assistants to trader accounts and market data.
What each tool does.
- ✓Nina analyses account activity to identify trading patterns, highlighting what is working, potential sources of losses, and areas for discipline improvement, and can recommend risk settings based on activity.
- ✓AI Strategy Builder lets traders describe entry, exit, risk and filtering rules in plain language, converting them into compiled, testable NinjaScript strategies that can be refined through further conversation.
- ✓NinjaTrader's MCP server connects AI assistants, including ChatGPT and Claude, to a trader's account, providing access to positions, account rules, breaking news, economic events and market signals for use in workflows like pre-trade risk sizing and post-trade review.
- ✓NinjaTrader appointed Brian Weis as Chief Innovation and AI Officer in July 2026, with AI agents and MCP among his stated areas of focus.
Where this sits in the wider AI-in-trading trend, and what it means for prop firm traders specifically.
NinjaTrader's announcement covers the platform itself, not any specific prop firm's rules around using these tools. It is not yet stated whether firms that support NinjaTrader, several of which are covered on this site, will place any restrictions on using Nina, AI Strategy Builder, or MCP-connected AI assistants on evaluation or funded accounts. If you trade a funded NinjaTrader account, this is worth confirming with your specific firm rather than assuming these tools are unrestricted for funded trading.
Platform-level AI tools reach traders regardless of which firm they're funded through.
NinjaTrader is core infrastructure for a large share of the retail futures prop sector, so a platform-level feature like this reaches traders across many different firms at once, not just NinjaTrader's own direct customers. The MCP server specifically is notable: it is the same technical approach FundedNext adopted for AI-driven trading workflows earlier this year, and MetaTrader 5 recently shipped a comparable AI assistant, suggesting AI-native tooling is becoming a genuine platform-level trend rather than an isolated feature at one firm.
Watching how prop firms respond.
Worth watching: whether NinjaTrader-supported prop firms publish specific guidance or restrictions on using Nina, AI Strategy Builder, or MCP-connected assistants on funded accounts, and whether other major platforms follow MetaTrader 5 and NinjaTrader with their own AI-native tooling.
