Current Accounts: No Monthly Fee, Period

Every evaluation purchased under Apex's current model is a single, one-time payment. There's an evaluation fee paid at purchase, and an activation fee paid once after passing, and that's the complete bill. No recurring charge shows up afterward, whether the trader is still in the 30-day evaluation window or already running a live Performance Account.

This is one of the headline features of the 4.0 restructure. Apex's own homepage lists "one-time fee, no monthly billing" directly alongside the removal of the MAE and 5:1 risk-reward rules as one of the defining changes from the old model. For the full breakdown of exactly what those two one-time fees cost at every account size, the Apex Trader Funding total cost guide covers the complete figures.

The one cost that does recur in practice, though it isn't a subscription, is buying a new evaluation after a Performance Account closes at its 6-payout lifetime cap. That's a repurchase, not a bill that arrives automatically.

Legacy Accounts: Still a True Monthly Subscription

Accounts purchased before March 1, 2026, or through a Legacy-specific signup window since, run on a completely different billing model. Apex's own Legacy billing documentation describes it plainly: an automatic monthly billing cycle that renews on the same date every month from the original payment date, continuing for as long as the subscription stays active.

The renewal isn't tied to trading performance in the way traders might expect. On a Legacy Evaluation Account specifically, billing continues regardless of whether the account has passed or failed, until the trader manually cancels it. Apex's documentation is explicit on this point: failed Evaluation Account subscriptions do not cancel automatically.

The one automatic exception: failed Performance Accounts

Performance Accounts behave differently. If a Legacy PA fails, Apex's billing system auto-cancels the subscription on its own. Starting a new one requires setting up a fresh subscription. This is the one case where a failure stops the billing without the trader having to take action.

What the Legacy Monthly Fee Actually Covers

Apex's billing documentation lists three things bundled into the monthly Evaluation Account charge: ongoing performance tracking, a real-time market data feed for as long as the account stays active, and a NinjaTrader platform license key. No additional purchases are required to trade the Evaluation Account on top of that monthly fee.

Optional add-ons exist separately from the base subscription: Rithmic add-ons like market depth tools and extra login sessions, and Tradovate add-ons like Level 2 depth-of-market data for CME and EUREX. These are opt-in extras, not part of the standard monthly charge.

What Happens If a Renewal Payment Fails

Apex gives Legacy subscribers a 72-hour grace period after a failed renewal charge. During that window, a trader can update payment details or manually renew the account through the dashboard's Payment History section.

Apex's documentation states this plainly: if the subscription isn't renewed within the 72-hour window, it terminates, including any profits and passed evaluations tied to that account. This is the highest-stakes detail in the entire billing structure for anyone still on a Legacy plan, worth double-checking that payment methods on file are current.

Balances and drawdown carry forward month to month as long as the account isn't in a failed status. If an Evaluation Account does fail, it's reset automatically at no extra charge, but only if the failure happens before 5 PM ET on the trading day before the next renewal date. Missing that cutoff means the balance stays as-is into the new billing cycle.

How to Tell Which Model an Account Is On

1Check the purchase date. Anything bought March 1, 2026 or later runs on the current, no-monthly-fee model, unless it was purchased through a specific Legacy promotional window.
2Check the Apex dashboard directly. Active subscriptions and their next renewal date are shown there. If a renewal date is listed, the account is on the monthly Legacy plan.
3Check for a one-time activation fee versus a recurring charge. Current accounts show a single activation charge after passing. Legacy accounts show a recurring monthly invoice regardless of pass or fail status.
